Met Ranger in Bremerton during overhaul. Got an apartment in Port Orchard with a couple of airdales while messcooking, (I was one of those guys with the counter that stood at the head of the chow line and said "Up and over" to anybody who tried to cut line). Originally assigned to OI Div. but transferred to OP Div. Made sea trials, carrier quals, Alameda, San Diago, Hawaii, PO City, Yoko, Sasebo, Korea after the Pueblo was taken, Bob hope USO Christmas show and then Hong Kong. Back to CONUS, Alameda and discharged in Bremerton. Be glad to hear from any OI Div. or OP Div. people.

I graduated with my BS/EE in 2000 and signed back up to be a civil engineering officer in the Navy, but I went on a ski trip and broke my back. I was paralyzed from the waist down. I have recovered and am able to walk again, but my career in the military is over. I miss it. I always smile when I look back at those old days in dungarees :)

I'll never forget those long hours on the flight deck! Some of the night recoveries in particular. One occasion in particular I can remember a yelloow shirt(plane director), in a hurry to get an F-4 out of the way, started to taxi the aircraft while I was still releasing the tail hook from the cross deck pennent. As a result I was blown down the deck like a leaf. Thankfully I was able to grab a pad eye with my crow bar. No ill will intended. Those things happened from time to time;due in part to time demands.

As a EM, I served as the flight deck lighting Electrician. lots of stress and exiting adventure. I remember the 4mmr fire and all the hard work e-division accomplished splicing cables and getting everything up and running. I thank the air boss for helping me getting all the aircraft on deck at night and saving lives one night when i lost power. I lit up the deck in the nick of time!! Thank you god.

Worked in XO Admin. Did it seem like the year 1985 was entirely spent at-sea. When I'm asked what was the best time in my life, I always remember the RANGER and her crew. There was nothing the ship or crew couldn't do, including flight ops in port San Diego when CONNIE caught on fire and needed help. For those who remember the Ship's Sec, I worked for him again at AIRPAC. Best wishes to all and especially those serving today. By the way saw the anchors and chains when they visited in FT. Lauderdale when the RONALD REAGAN visited.

I just recently learned that the Ranger is in Bremreton Washington and I would love to suprise my dad & mom by taking them up to see the ship. Can someone give me directions to the ship and do you know if you can tour the ship. It would be a great family trip for all my brothers and sister to take with our parents. We are Navy Navy Navy - my grandpa was in the Navy, my grandmother was Navy mother of the year because all 6 of her sons were in the Navy at the same time, my brother and several cousins have also served in the Navy. My heart skips a beat when I see a Navy ship, a saylor or the American Flag.
