My dad served aboard the USS Ranger CVA-61 from 1961 to 66. He was very proud of the USS Ranger and unfortunately in Great Bend,Kansas 1981 we suffered a flood that destroyed most of his photos and cruise books. If any shipmates knew my dad, please e-mail me. I never got to talk much about his days on board the Ranger, but the times we did share it made a lasting impression on my life My father wasd buried in Resurecction cemetery, in Wichita, Kansas with Naval Reserve Hono guard. It was a proud moment to know the Navy didnt forget him. His older brother Mike served a 30+ year with the Navy and has since retired in Newport News. My dad was not extremely talkative about the days during Vietnam, but i can tell he missed some friends he had made during his time aboard the Ranger. Robert L Nolan passed away August 4th, 2005 ate the young age of 59 after a two year battle with cancer. I really miss him and the stories about the Ranger. This is a very nice website and a good tribute to the USS Ranger (CV 61). From what I remember I was onboard during the hardest of times for the Ranger. Collisions with other ships at sea, fire on board, men overboard and 121 days at sea. A rough life for a few years there but I wouldn't want to change it now.....the experience was good for me.
